The Scout Section represents the third stage of the Scouting journey.
The Scout section is based on adventure and putting the skills learned
in the younger Sections to good use. Scouts are encouraged to take on
responsibilities and to challenge themselves during the course of
activities they undertake. Our Scout Section caters for young people
between the ages of 12-15 years.
The Scout Section meet on a friday evening in the Den.
The weekly meetings are organised by the Leaders but the Scouts
themselves are encourage to give their input and ideas into weekly meetings.
Scouts are encouraged to organise and implement their own programme
ideas as part of their Patrol's and as part of the Scout Troop.
Scouts work towards earning merit badges and each week spend part of their
meeeting learning, developing and perfecting their Scouting skills.
Our Scouts take part in activities such as hikes, camping, climbing and Scouting
competitions. Dun Laoghaire Scout Troop have been quite succesful in the County
Smelvin Challenge for the past number of years winning the competition in 6 of the
past 7 years. Having been so successful at County level in recent times our Scout
teams have taken part in the National Phoenix Challenge which is held annually in
the Summer. Each year the Scout team has performed admirably and have achieved
a Silver level grade in the past two years on the Phoenix challenges.
In recent years the Scout sections have travelled to Switzerland, Luxembourg,
Punchestown, Scotland and England on their Annual Camps. The Scout Section will
have a number of representatives attending this years World Scout Jamboree in
Sweden whilst also hosting their own Annual Camp here in Ireland.
Since the beginning of 2011 the Scout Section has had quite an active calendar of
events including hikes, camping weekends and the Smelvin Competition in early April.
